These people don’t exist

I have heard many times that transit in Houston won’t work, and that there’s no point in building good sidewalks in Houston, because Houstonians won’t venture outside the air conditioning.
So the who are these people? This isn’t the height of rush hour — it’s after 7:00 on a Thursday night. And it isn’t a nice day, either — hot, humid, with the streets still wet from Tropical Storm Erin.
150,000 people work downtown; a third of those, including the people at this bus stop, ride transit. What would it look like if we provided equally good transit service and equally good pedestrian space in other employment centers?
